Over the last century, human wellbeing has greatly improved, even as populations exponentially increased. Yet improvements in human livelihoods came at the expense of Earth’s wildlife and ecosystems. As a result, our planet is experiencing more rapid change now than at any time in the past 10,000 years and we are facing a global biodiversity crisis. Our success in navigating existing and emerging environmental challenges will hinge on increasing awareness of people’s dependence and impacts on nature.

The ‘Student Conservation Corner’ is a forum for undergraduate students in the Department of Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology at UC Davis to summarize the latest, cutting-edge conservation science and make it exciting and accessible for everyone. We hope you enjoy the results!
