Delta smelt collection

by the California Department of Fish and Game fishing crew

 
fishing crew leaves at the crack of dawn
rain gear and a life vest are 
a must to fish
oxygen tank is secured on 
the boat
a purse seine net is used to catch delta smelt
fish are scooped out with plastic dip nets ... 
... so that fish are never out 
of water
a foam cushion reduces  physical trauma to the fish

fish are placed in double plastic bags inside the cooler
after each catch all pertinent data are recorded
the cooler is securely placed on a cushion seat of a van during transport
fish are brought to the laboratory and released in holding tanks
a happy fishing crew after 
a good collection day ...
