Advising Information

The dedicated faculty, staff, and peer advisors in WFCB are on hand to help you match your interests and develop a study plan that will prepare you for your career or graduate school.   The following offers a brief description of the advisors and their duties:

The Staff Advisor is the first point of contact for advising in WFCB, both for entering and continuing students. The staff advisor assesses your needs and routes you to the right resource, provides staff support for the Lead Faculty and Faculty advisors, manages the undergraduate and alumni listservs, and helps organize department events (e.g., Summer Advising, the WFCB Fall Welcome, Commencements Reception, etc.).

The Academic Peer Advisor gives students perspective on various classes and instructors, gives advice about class scheduling, and facilitates student/faculty interactions. The peer advisor is a WFCB student who can help you when you have questions about classes, want to find out about internship opportunities, or have other questions about the major.

All students are assigned a Faculty Advisor, who will help you develop your study plan, offer suggestions on courses to take that will best suit your interests and needs, and make sure you are on the right track to graduate. We strongly recommend that you build a relationship with your faculty advisor, as he/she is a great resource for advice about graduate school or career options after graduation.

The Lead Faculty Advisor is the final line in advising and can give specific information about classes, when they will be taught, and general departmental information. The Lead Faculty Advisor can inform students about graduate schools, give advice on how to succeed in the major, and (s)he signs off on most petitions/forms. The Lead Faculty Advisor also advises students on class substitutions, content of different courses, and general information about how to get involved in the department, including our two student-led professional societies: The Wildlife Society and the American Fisheries Society.
